Mold Remediation

Each remedial situation is different based on the data obtained from the inspection and testing process. Removing mold is only part of the solution.  You must fix the water and/ or humidity issue.  Without removing the source of water intrusion or controlling moisture levels, the mold will return.

After remediation, it is always recommended to have a third party perform testing. Likewise, Blue Sky Inspections, Inc. offers third-party testing for individuals as well as remediation companies.

Mold Prevention

The top priority for homeowners today is prevention. Mold is not going anywhere.  It is part of our environment.  We want to help people know what types of molds can be harmful and educate them on minimizing mold exposure in their homes. Blocking out moisture is the key to preventing mold. Understanding that mold only needs three things to grow: water, food, and oxygen.  The two factors you can control are water and food.  Water being the primary target.

Keep indoor relative humidity (RH) levels ideally between 30 – 50%.  Fix leaks immediately, dry completely, and treat the area.  It is important to dry, water-damaged, or water intrusion within 24-48 hours to prevent mold growth. This includes condensation.

Being proactive will help to prevent damage to your home and furnishings, save money, and avoid potential health problems by controlling moisture and eliminating mold growth.

Health Risks of Mold

There are no Federal or State Standards or Threshold Limit Values for airborne concentrations of mold or mold spores.  Always discuss health concerns related to bacterial and fungal infections with your medical provider.

As stated by the CDC, “Mold can cause many health effects. For some people, mold can cause a stuffy nose, sore throat, coughing or wheezing, burning eyes, or skin rash. People with asthma or who are allergic to mold may have severe reactions. Immune-compromised people and people with chronic lung disease may get infections in their lungs from mold.” Reactions to mold can be immediate or delayed.  Research on mold and its health effects is ongoing.
